The Atlanta Falcons' cornerback A.J. Terrell has consistently demonstrated his skills on the field, yet some argue he has not received the recognition he deserves. The 2024 season further showcased his abilities, with Terrell often being avoided by opposing teams' quarterbacks. His performance against the Washington Commanders in Week 17 highlighted his prowess as he limited Terry McLaurin to just one reception for five yards on six targets.

Last year, the Falcons extended Terrell's contract, making him one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league. He continued to justify this investment with a strong showing throughout 2025. Despite this, questions remain about who will play alongside him in the upcoming season.

The team faces decisions regarding their secondary lineup, particularly at nickel position. Dee Alford's performance last season raised concerns due to high target rates and touchdowns allowed. As a restricted free agent, Alford's future with the team is uncertain.

New defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich and assistant head coach Jerry Gray are expected to influence defensive strategies moving forward. Their plans may impact decisions on whether to retain or replace current players like Alford and Mike Hughes.

With pick No. 15 in the NFL Draft approaching, the Falcons have an opportunity to address these needs through new talent acquisition or by retaining existing players such as Hughes for consistency.
