FOIA Request to Paulding County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at West Atlanta News have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Paulding County Election Department. The request was made for records pertaining to all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.

The information requested includes candidates' first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation of each candidate; and all contact information for each candidate, including address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We will continue our efforts to bring transparency and accountability in local government affairs by providing timely updates about this upcoming election. We hope that our work will help citizens make informed decisions when casting their votes.
