FOIA Request to Douglas County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our continued efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at West Atlanta News have submitted a request for records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.
Our request is specifically for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. We have asked for detailed information about each candidate, including their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.
Furthermore, we have requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals given our role in disseminating information.
