FOIA Request Sent to Paulding County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Paulding County Election Department in Georgia on October 29, 2024. The request was made by West Atlanta News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request sought detailed information about the methods used by the department to count votes. Specifically, it asked whether the counting process is manual or automated. If manual counting is being employed, the department was asked to provide an estimated number of people who would be working on election night.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at West Atlanta News believe that access to such information is crucial. We aim to ensure that our readers are well-informed about the processes involved in their electoral system.

We also requested a fee waiver for this information as a media professional engaged in gathering and reporting news to the public. This waiver is consistent with our role in disseminating vital information and promoting transparency within our community.

The response from the Paulding County Election Department will provide valuable insights into how votes are counted during elections, thereby enhancing public understanding and trust in the electoral process.
