Over the course of the last two months, Douglas County has experience multiple Commercial Burglaries involving secured mail boxes being broken into and their contents stolen. After an extensive investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, a suspect was identified.
On September 7th, 2022, The Scorpion Unit, Fugitive Unit, and members of the Criminal Investigative Division executed a search warrant and arrest warrants at the residence of the suspect, Stephen Smith.
During the course of the execution, 3 individuals were taken into custody. Large quantities of stolen mail were recovered along with illegal identification cards, fraudulent checks, printers, identification making equipment, counterfeit money, and other stolen items.
