Douglas County BOC & CSB to Host Veterans Village Complex Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

County of Douglas issued the following announcement on Jan. 11.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the Community Services Board are holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the Douglas County Veterans Village Complex.  The event is scheduled to occur on Friday, January 21, 2022, at noon and the public is invited to attend. 

 “Veterans Village provides an opportunity for military veterans in Douglas County not to be left behind,” said Douglas County Commission Chair, Dr. Romona Jackson Jones. “This housing complex is a groundbreaking service for our veterans bringing necessary help and support to those in need of housing and treatment from behavioral health care. “Chairwoman Jones also serves as Vice Chair on the Community Services Board of Directors.

 The Douglas County Veterans Village Complex conveniently provides seven, two-bedroom, two baths, townhomes located in the City of Douglasville. 

“After serving our nation, our heroes are often left to deal with battling behavioral health issues, financial instability, and a lack of resources, said Raye Lightford, Chief Operating Officer, “Quality housing, employment support, case management, and therapeutic rehabilitation services are offered directly to our Veterans in the community where they choose to reside! This one-of-a-kind community is dedicated to combating these disparities.”

 The Douglas County Community Services Board (CSB), also deemed the Behavioral Health Authority (BHA) in some communities and a Community Mental Health Clinic (CMHC), is a local provider of supports to individuals with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and intellectual disability (ID) and/or developmental disability (DD). CSB’s provide support to the public and individuals transitioning from an institution to the community with various supports.
