Document

County of Douglas issued the following announcement on Jan. 16.

Douglas County, Ga. Douglas County officials are monitoring the impact of a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and rain falling across the county as a winter weather advisory is in effect.

“This will be an all-day event for the state of Georgia and though Douglas County is not expecting to receive any winter warnings, we know from the past, mother nature is unpredictable,” said Dr. Romona Jackson Jones, Chair of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. “Just because we have a holiday weekend, we are not taking things for granted.”

Light snow began falling early Sunday morning around 9:45 a.m. in the Fairplay section of western part of Douglas County.  Light snow was also falling on the eastern part of the county in Lithia Springs.  The E-911 Center received reports of several trees and power lines down due to high winds. Douglas County is under a high wind warning until Sunday, at 2:00 p.m. and a high wind advisory until Monday, January 17, 7:00 p.m.

“Our Department of Public Works crews have been working in 12 hour shifts since midnight and have responded to Post Road for a tree down and cleared it,” said Rick Martin, County spokesman. “Our crews are in the field and waiting.  So far, we can say that we have no roads closed in the county.”
