Connect Douglas Announces the Season of Giving

County of Douglas issued the following announcement on Dec. 6.

 Connect Douglas today announces the “Season of Giving” beginning on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 and continuing through Monday, January 3, 2022.

The “Season of Giving” is an inaugural community engagement initiative with a goal to uplift, support, and spread holiday cheer to area Douglas County residents. Connect Douglas will host donation drives, promotions via social media (@connectdouglas) and giveaways throughout the County and on each of the four public bus service fixed routes.

Connect Douglas, in partnership with the Douglas County Department of External Affairs Youth Commission program, encourages all citizens, business owners, families and friends to join them in the kicking off the “Season of Giving” by donating food, clothing, toiletry items, and toys. All donated items will benefit designated Douglas County nonprofits and Toys for Tots. 

Donation items can be easily dropped off at the Connect Douglas Multi-Modal Transportation Center (MMTC) located at 8800 Dorris Rd. or the Douglas County Courthouse located at 8700 Hospital Dr. Monday – Friday 8:00AM until 5:00PM. Each location has a stop on the Connect Douglas Bus Routes 10/20/40.

Persons donating items will receive one (1) free trip pass for the Fixed Route Bus Service; limit 3 per person. The “Season of Giving” is a great was to give to our neighbors while getting something in return.

Donation Items Requested 

·         New unwrapped toy

·         Non-perishable food items 

o    Example: canned meats (tuna/salmon/chicken in water), canned beans, instant potatoes, rice/grains

o    Foil, cooking oil (vegetable/olive oil), roasting pans 

o    Food vouchers or area grocery store gift cards  

·         Clothing items: new gloves/scarves/hats/underwear/socks/blankets, new or gently used coats

·         Toiletries: new and unwrapped feminine products, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bar soap, toilet paper 

Persons donating items will receive one (1) free trip pass for the Fixed Route Bus Service; limit 3 per person. Passes can be picked up at the MMTC located at 8800 Dorris Rd. 

About Douglas County Youth Commission

Under the Douglas County Department of External Affairs, the Youth Commission is a program dedicated to educating young high school citizens about the importance of being actively conscious of their local government and the opportunities available in the public sector. Participants meet monthly and past activities have included meeting with judges, attending government meetings, and performing community service.

About Connect Douglas

Connect Douglas is the public transportation and mobility services division of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. Services include fixed route bus service, ADA paratransit service, commuter vanpools, mobility assistance for senior adults and disabled individuals, travel training and Xpress bus service to Atlanta (operated by the Georgia State Roads and Tollway Authority).

Launched in June of 2019, the Connect Douglas Fixed Route Bus Service has remained available as a safe, clean, and dependable mode of transportation within Douglas County. Daily cleanings and weekly deep cleanings also remain in place for the MMTC and bus system despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Masks remain available to the public in the MMTC and on each bus.
