City of Douglasville issued the following announcement on Aug. 27.
WHAT: Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) contractors will continue to close traffic access to the North County Line Road Bridge and Burnt Hickory Road Bridge over I-20 in Douglas County through mid-September and the detours will remain in place during the closures. The bridges were closed in June. The initial schedule to re-open earlier this summer has been impacted by rainy weather conditions and vehicular accidents that required repairs to the concrete traffic control barriers at the bridge closures.
This work is part of a project to repair and rehabilitate six bridges over I-20 in Douglas County. Bridge rehabilitation includes raising the structures’ vertical clearance, bridge deck preservation (with polymer overlay), painting of steel beams, joint replacement where necessary and stabilizing the superstructures and substructures.
Message boards and signage in the area will alert drivers of the closures and detour routes. Motorists are advised to reduce travel speeds and drive carefully through the area. Expect traffic delays related to these closures.
WHEN: Weather and on-site conditions permitting, the Burnt Hickory Road bridge and the North County Line Road bridge over I-20 will continue to be closed to traffic through mid-September.
WHERE/DETOUR ROUTES:
• Burnt Hickory Road/Midway Road bridge over I-20.
