Quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to attend the Atlanta Falcons’ mandatory minicamp, according to a report by Dianna Russini of The Athletic. The minicamp is set to begin on Tuesday, and media access will be available for practices on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Cousins joined the Falcons last offseason with a four-year contract worth up to $180 million. Despite this significant investment, the team shifted its focus towards Michael Penix Jr., whom they selected as the eighth overall pick in last year’s draft. Cousins was benched during Week 16 of the previous season, allowing Penix to start the final three games.

The Falcons have confirmed that Penix will continue as their starting quarterback for the 2025 season. Head coach Raheem Morris noted that Cousins has expressed interest in seeking a starting role with another team through a potential trade.

General Manager Terry Fontenot addressed this situation on April 26: “Really, nothing’s changed with that,” he said. “Just like on any player: If we get a call, we’ll discuss it. If it makes sense and it’s going to help this team, we’ll do it. If not, we won’t.”

Despite these developments, Cousins remains part of the Falcons’ roster as they prepare for the upcoming season.
