Between offseason acquisitions through the draft and free agency, the Atlanta Falcons have reached their 90-man roster limit for 2025. However, this roster is not finalized as it still needs to be reduced to a 53-man team for the regular season. This process is standard at this time of year.
The Falcons will continue to refine their roster as workouts and camps approach during the summer. They are focusing on three key areas: starting center, backup quarterback, and defensive depth.
Regarding the starting center position, the Falcons have yet to announce Ryan Neuzil’s re-signing. Head coach Raheem Morris has already penciled Neuzil in as the starter but indicated that competition will be brought in. The Falcons did not address this through the draft but did sign offensive lineman Joshua Gray through undrafted free agency.
For the backup quarterback role, Kirk Cousins might remain with the team throughout training camp. Morris, general manager Terry Fontenot, and team owner Arthur Blank have expressed comfort with Cousins potentially being Michael Penix Jr.’s backup during the season. Assistant general manager Kyle Smith and other coaching staff members praised Cousins’ professionalism in handling his role transition.
Defensively, the Falcons addressed major needs via free agency and draft acquisitions like Leonard Floyd and Morgan Fox. The task now is to integrate newcomers with returning players under new defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s guidance. The coaching staff is working on defining roles for these players within different packages.
Overall, while they have several pieces available, building an effective team structure remains a priority for the Falcons as they prepare for the upcoming season.
