Douglas County announced on May 8 that it will host Watch the Cup Douglas, a community watch party for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The event is open to both residents and visitors from across the region.
The county said this initiative aims to bring people together through their shared love of soccer while offering an opportunity for others to experience what Douglas County has to offer. “The FIFA World Cup 2026 is the world’s biggest sporting event, bringing people together across cultures and countries through a shared love of soccer,” the statement said.
“Douglas County is excited to host Watch the Cup Douglas, a community watch party open to both our residents and visitors from across the region. It’s a chance to bring that global energy right here at home while also welcoming others to experience everything our county has to offer,” according to county officials.
Enrollment at Douglas County schools dropped by 0.3% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to the Georgia Department of Education. The schools enrolled a total of 25,737 students during that period, with Black students making up 56% of enrollment, Hispanic students accounting for 20%, White students representing 16%, and multiracial students comprising about 6% of the student body, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
As preparations continue for Watch the Cup Douglas, local leaders say they hope events like these foster greater unity among residents and encourage regional visitors.
