The Atlanta Falcons announced on Mar. 12 the signing of linebacker Christian Harris.

Harris joins the Falcons after four seasons with the Houston Texans, where he was drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. During his time with Houston, Harris started 27 games and recorded four sacks and 206 total tackles, including 14 tackles for loss. He also registered seven quarterback hits, forced two fumbles, and made one interception.

One of Harris’s most memorable performances came during the Wild Card Round of the 2023 postseason against the Cleveland Browns in January 2024. In that game, he intercepted quarterback Joe Flacco and returned it for a touchdown before sacking Flacco on fourth down during the next drive. This achievement made him the first player since J.J. Watt in 2011 to record both a sack and an interception return for a touchdown in a playoff game.

“Christian is one of the fastest linebackers that I’ve had a chance to work with,” DeMeco Ryans said of Harris in 2024. “Very explosive, instinctive player.”

The new league year for the National Football League began Wednesday at 4 p.m., allowing teams to officially sign free agents and finalize trades.

The Atlanta Falcons compete in the National Football League’s NFC South division according to their official website. The team is based in Atlanta, Georgia according to their official website and began as an expansion team in 1965 according to their official website. The franchise has advanced to the Super Bowl twice—in 1998 and again in 2016 according to their official website. Freddie the Falcon serves as mascot for the team according to their official website.
