The Atlanta Falcons have released edge rusher Khalid Kareem, the team announced Thursday.
Kareem played in only one game this season, participating in the Falcons’ Week 11 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers. In that game, he recorded a tackle and broke up a pass.
Kareem was initially signed to Atlanta’s practice squad at the beginning of the season. He was later promoted to the active roster prior to facing Carolina. Kareem joined the Falcons in 2024 and appeared in two games last year, making four tackles.
He entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020 and spent two seasons with them. He then played for both the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears during 2022 and 2023.
Over his career, Kareem has made one start across 31 games. His statistics include 35 tackles, seven quarterback hits, one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two passes defended.
The release comes ahead of Atlanta’s Week 13 matchup against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The team did not announce a corresponding roster move immediately following Kareem’s release, leaving an open spot on their 53-man roster.
