The Atlanta Falcons announced on May 14 that they have agreed to terms with defensive lineman Anterio Thompson on his rookie contract.
Thompson was selected as the No. 208 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2026 National Football League Draft. His addition strengthens a defensive line group that includes Zach Harrison, Brandon Dorlus, and LaCale London, along with newcomers Da’Shawn Hard and Maason Smith, who joined following a trade involving Ruke Orhorhoro to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Thompson’s rookie deal is estimated at $4.39 million in total value and would carry a cap number of $949,777 in 2026 before reaching $1.34 million in 2029. The University of Washington graduate stands at six feet two inches tall, weighs 306 pounds, and is 23 years old. In his final college season, he started three games out of thirteen played, recording thirty tackles (2.5 for loss), one and a half sacks, and three blocked punts over his last two seasons.
Ian Cunningham, Atlanta Falcons general manager said: “He’s sawed off, powerful, explosive, really good hand strength, good instincts. He plays the brand of ball that our defensive staff looks for. He’s powerful. We look forward to bringing him in and helping him add to the group in the run and in the pass game.” Raymond Lucas Jr., Yahoo Sports said: “Thompson is an athlete. If his name is called in the NFL Draft, it’ll be because his raw athleticism is appealing to teams that believe they can develop him into a contributor. In an era where mobile quarterbacks are becoming more prevalent year by year, quick defensive linemen become more valuable. It is tougher than ever to tackle quarterbacks in space, and that’s an era where Thompson could flourish if he puts it all together.”
The Atlanta Falcons compete in the National Football League’s NFC South division as a team based in Atlanta since their founding as an expansion franchise in 1965; they reached the Super Bowl twice—in 1998 and again in 2016—and their mascot is Freddie the Falcon according to the official website.
